June Chef of the Month

At DIG, we’re all about celebrating the little things. Good day at work? Get a drink with that dinner. Straight As on a report card? Have an extra dessert after that mac and cheese.

But we also celebrate people, and we’d like to take this time to start recognizing the talented artists that make DIG delicious. This will be our first Chef of the Month post as we’d like to introduce our guests to the faces behind the flavors.

JJ Morgan personifies one of our core values at DIG, which is to “invest in building trust.” As a member of the DIG family since 2017, JJ has been cooking for over twenty years after being brought up around food: His mother was a server and his father owned two bodegas in the Bronx, home of New York City’s signature chopped cheese.

These roots instilled two vital characteristics in JJ: A complete aversion to bullshit, and an uncompromising work ethic.

In fact, he takes pride in the fact that at every single food-related job he’s had, from Nifty Fifty’s to Chipotle to Olive Garden, he worked his way up from the bottom to the manager.

This background has directly influenced how he runs his kitchens. While he subscribes to the “One Team, One Dream” mantra, he also wants to develop each of his staff members to “be the best versions of themselves they can be.” In fact, he credits regular one-on-one meetings with each of them as the secret sauce to his success.

A positive outlook is key, and JJ makes it a point to come into work every day and create a space that is motivating. He’ll always take the time to share his knowledge, and sees it as his responsibility to see the potential in others, which is why his team members are so loyal to him and will most assuredly have the same loyalty when they’re running their own kitchens.
